For years, I did work that looked impressive on paper but felt hollow in practice. The long commutes, the windowless conference rooms, the meetings that led nowhere. My career was on track for a comfortable retirement if I could just endure the grind for another 25 years. The money was good and the work was simple, and even though I was miserable, I stayed. But something essential was missing, and it was draining my energy not just for work, but for life.
I craved independence and the freedom to do something meaningful while calling my own shots. I had dozens of ideas, but that fearful little voice always showed up. What if I fail? How do I cover the bills, insurance, retirement? So day after day, I kept going to work.
Then I started paying attention to people outside the office who had found a way to work for themselves. They seemed genuinely happy, doing things they cared about that brought real value to others. I started asking a different question. Could this be possible for me too?
The shift was slow. Full time became part time, then contract work, then semi independent gigs. It was my first real taste of autonomy.
At the same time, my future co founder, Sonia, was standing at her own crossroads. She had spent years as a software executive and was quietly preparing for her own exit. On the surface our backgrounds were different, but the pull was identical. Neither of us wanted to keep laboring for someone else's vision. We wanted to build something that reflected our own values.
In late 2022, when large language models arrived, the timing was perfect. We teamed up and dove headfirst into AI. We had no idea where to begin, but for the first time we had a capable partner with us every step of the way. We used these tools for everything, and we began sharing what we learned about entrepreneurship, AI, and the freedom we were starting to feel.
In mid 2023, Sonia helped lead her company's acquisition by Clari as VP of Product. She delivered the win, and then she walked away. Her liberation day had arrived.
Then we saw something bigger, still unfolding. As AI capability grows, the distribution of labor is changing for good. Entrepreneurship is no longer a luxury or a passion project. For many, it is becoming a necessity. We did not just want to help a few people through consulting. We wanted to codify our own escape and share it widely.
The mission became clear: to help corporate professionals build something of their own, with AI as their leverage. Everything we learned while building became faibuddy, the product we wished we had on day zero. Freedom with AI is how we share the whole path: the product, advisory, and what we keep learning out loud.
